Hi in this Thread I' ll explain our works in Rome ( and Lazio Region ) but also most of the Italian Emergency Rescue center.
First I will explain the Italian Medical Emergency System, it is based on BLS-D ambulaces ( RTW) who uses BLS-D operators (Rescuers ) . In case of serius Emergency ( usually life danger emergencies ) are used ALS cars ( with a Physician, Nurse and Driver on Board or a Nurse and a Driver usually called "India" ) who helps the BLS-D ambulance. There are also ALS ambulances who are used for serious emergencies, ( with a Physician, Nurse and Driver on Board or a Nurse and a Driver usually called "India" ) who operates alone.
It also used the Air Ambulance (HEMS) , usually the HEMS is also used for Alpine Air Rescue, there are on board a Physician, Nurse, Emergency Technician a Winch Operator and a Pilot.
The number to deal with Emergencies is 112, The old emergency number to deal with medical emergencies was 118 ( used just for medical emergencies ) so the common name for the medical emergency system still 118 ( although it is not working ). The Medical Emergencies are managed by a specific dispatch center who uses nurses and doctors tho coordinate calls and ambulances.
The phone dispatch uses some items who are common for all the country dispatch, thoose are
Code :
White : non emergency situation, but the dispatch must to send an ambulance
Green : not life threating situation, the ambulance is sent without using lights and siren
Yellow : Possible life threating situazion, the ambulance is sent using lights and siren
Red : Life threating situazion, the ambulance is sent as soon as possible using lights and siren
Place : The place where the emergency is
Pathology : The Medical issue that the dispatcher has detected during the call
Support :
Automedica: ALS Cars
MSA : doctor, nurse driver on Board
MSI or India : Nurse, Driver on Board
MSB : BLS-D Ambulance
FFO : Police support, it may comes from Local Police ( Polizia locale or Polizia Municipale ), Carabinieri ( Military Police ) or Polizia di Stato ( State Police)
VVF : Vigili del Fuoco ( Firefighters support )
Elisoccorso : HEMS (Air Rescue) support
Thanks for reading, We are available for each question, problem or curiosity
